The Navy Medal of Honor was born in December, 1861 and the Army Medal of Honor six months later. The Air Force Medal of Honor was not conceived until 1966. The birthday of all 3 Medals is celebrated on the Month and Day of its first presentation in 1863: NATIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR DAY (Public Law 101-64) |
Below is a month-by-month calendar of the anniversary of each of our living Medal of Honor Recipient's heroic action. It was on this day that, in a moment of war and devastation, that each man among them demonstrated the utmost of courage. Perhaps this anniversary is not so much a day of celebration, but of reflection, for in that moment each man also made immense sacrificed and many lost some of their closest friends. We encourage every American to remember these heroes, and the comrades with whom they served, on this day of the year.
